Dr. Iryna Popiv
Dr. Iryna Popiv, DO is a board-certified general surgeon with advanced fellowship training in laparoscopic, metabolic, and bariatric surgery. She currently practices in New Jersey with Montclair Surgical Associates and NJ Weight Loss Doctors, where she focuses on minimally invasive and metabolic approaches to weight loss and complex surgical care.
Dr. Popiv completed her Advanced Laparoscopic, Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in New Orleans under the direction of Dr. Philip Schauer, a nationally recognized leader in metabolic surgery. She served as Chief Resident during her general surgery training at East Tennessee State University and completed earlier residency training at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes/Jefferson Health in New Jersey.
She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated cum laude from University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, along with minors in Chemistry and Molecular & Cell Biology.
Clinically, Dr. Popiv specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, with particular expertise in bariatric and metabolic procedures. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and holds advanced certifications in robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic surgery.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Popiv is actively engaged in research and academic medicine. She has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations focused on metabolic surgery outcomes, obesity medicine, and surgical innovation, with work presented at leading conferences including the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery annual meeting.
Dr. Popiv remains deeply committed to advancing patient care through evidence-based medicine, education, and innovation. She has extensive teaching experience at both the resident and fellowship levels and is an active member of organizations including the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association.
